President of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, on Tuesday, August 20th, 2024, stressed the importance of supporting the "legitimate" government as a reliable partner in ensuring international navigation freedom, combating extremism and terrorism, and preventing piracy.

Al-Alimi made these remarks while receiving credentials from eight ambassadors representing Asian, African, and European nations at the Ma'ashiq Palace in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen.

According to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, Al-Alimi expressed his appreciation for the international community's unified stance in supporting Yemen's constitutional legitimacy, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity during separate meetings with the ambassadors.

He highlighted the efforts to rebuild Yemeni state institutions in Aden based on partnership, peace-building, and ending the war, which has resulted in one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.

Al-Alimi emphasized the "significant national transformation" achieved through the formation of the Presidential Leadership Council, the regional and international momentum to revive the political process, and the government's initiatives supporting this path. He noted that the peace process has stalled due to the intransigence of the Houthi militias, who prioritize the interests of their supporters over the well-being of the Yemeni people.

In this regard, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council stated that any reluctance on the part of the international community to deter threats to international peace and security would only encourage the Houthi militias to continue their systematic oppression, attacks on public freedoms, and piracy of commercial vessels as a means of extortion.

Regarding sustainable peace, Al-Alimi emphasized the need for justice, fairness, and non-discrimination, addressing past grievances, and prioritizing the Southern issue.

He asserted that a secure path towards regional stability necessitates supporting the legitimate government, strengthening its capacity to build the economy, provide services, and extend its authority over the entire national territory. Al-Alimi urged the international community to uphold the arms embargo aimed at preventing the destabilization of Yemen and the entire region.

The Presidential Leadership Council President informed the new ambassadors about the ongoing economic reforms and the challenges they face in light of the catastrophic consequences of Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities, which have resulted in a 70% loss of state revenue.

In this context, Al-Alimi commended the developmental and humanitarian assistance provided by the Coalition for the Support of Legitimacy, led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, stating that without this support, the government would be unable to fulfill its basic obligations, including paying salaries to public employees.

He expressed his hope for greater international economic support for the government, as well as for humanitarian response plans and efforts by brotherly nations and friends to achieve peace in Yemen based on national, regional, and international frameworks.

According to Saba, Rashad Al-Alimi received credentials from ambassadors representing the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Kingdom of Sweden, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the Republic of Ireland, the Republic of Austria, the Republic of India, the Republic of Angola, and the Republic of Iraq.
