Armed members of the "Dhu Muhammad" tribe in Jawf Governorate (northeastern Yemen) stormed administrative buildings in the western part of the governorate on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, in retaliation for the killing of a tribal member by a Houthi leader.
According to tribal sources to "Barran Press", the armed tribesmen stormed the "Zuma'an Complex," which serves as an administrative headquarters and secret prison for Houthi opponents in the "Bart al-Marashi" district in western Jawf. The attack was a response to the killing of "Dham Humoud Tale'a Matwan" by a Houthi leader.
Sources revealed that the Houthi leader, "Abu Murtada al-Mansouri," appointed by the group as the security director of the Marashi district, executed Matwan with multiple shots from an automatic weapon, in a horrific crime. This prompted the "Dhu Muhammad" tribe, to which the victim belonged, to launch a large-scale attack on Houthi headquarters, prisons, and centers in the district.
Last May, clashes erupted between the Hamdan tribes and the Houthis following the killing of a Houthi leader named "Mohammed Ahmed al-Marani" during tribal clashes between the "Al-Fuqman" and "Al-Hamd" tribes in the "Khalq" area due to an "old feud." Al-Marani was killed by a stray bullet.
Following al-Marani's death, the Houthis sent a military campaign led by "Abdulkhaliq al-Houthi," the brother of the group's leader, to impose a complete siege on the "Al-Fuqman" tribe. This led to clashes between the Hamdan tribes and the Houthis, culminating in the Houthis' withdrawal and the lifting of the siege they had imposed on the Al-Fuqman.
