The internationally recognized Yemeni government on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, described the accreditation of eight ambassadors in Aden as a "significant event" that reaffirms the country's legal status. The government attributed the achievement to the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government in strengthening Yemen's presence on the international stage and normalizing the situation in Aden, the declared temporary capital of the country (southern Yemen).
In an official statement published by the official Yemeni news agency Saba, Information, Culture, and Tourism Minister Muammar al-Eryani said, "This important event, taking place in the temporary capital Aden, reaffirms the country's legal status and that the legitimacy is the sole representative of the Republic of Yemen, representing the interests of all Yemenis. It also reflects the unwavering international support for the constitutional legitimacy and its efforts to restore the state, rejecting the coup and its consequences."
He emphasized that these diplomatic successes would not have been possible without the political and popular support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the support of the Saudi-led coalition. He acknowledged the coalition's unwavering support in economic, developmental, humanitarian, and other fields, highlighting their crucial role in aiding Yemen during its ordeal caused by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militia's coup.
Al-Eryani asserted that the international community is fully convinced that the Houthi militia is a rebellious group that has killed and displaced millions of Yemenis, committing various crimes, violations, and organized terrorism. This includes targeting foreign embassies and international organizations, looting their headquarters, and kidnapping their staff.
He highlighted that the Iranian-backed Houthi group, listed by the international community as a terrorist organization, "does not have its own decision-making power and is a tool in the hands of the Tehran regime to implement its agenda of destabilizing the region's security and stability and threatening international interests." He added, "No matter how long their illegitimate coup lasts, they will remain rejected internally and externally, destined for failure and downfall, isolated and besieged."
Earlier on Tuesday, President of the Presidential Leadership Council Rashad al-Alimi received the credentials of ambassadors from Vietnam, Sweden, Ethiopia, Ireland, Austria, India, Angola, and Iraq at the Ma'ashiq Palace in Aden, the declared temporary capital of the country.
