Al Ghaydah, Mahra (August 21, 2024) - Security forces in the eastern Yemeni governorate of Mahra announced the arrest of three individuals involved in the trafficking of illegal drugs and narcotics in a residential area of Al Ghaydah city.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior's Security Media Center, Captain Mohammed Saad Makhbal, Deputy Director of the Drug Control Department, stated that the arrests followed two days of surveillance and tracking the suspects' movements.
Makhbal noted that one of the suspects attempted to engage in a shootout with the drug control force using a personal weapon, but the force managed to control the situation and respond according to engagement protocols.
The Director of the Drug Control Department reported that 22 Captagon pills, half a kilogram of hashish, and a quantity of alcoholic beverages were seized from the suspects during two separate operations.
The border governorate of Mahra, which shares a border with Oman, has witnessed extensive smuggling activities, including the trafficking of weapons and various types of narcotics, for the past nine years, according to UN reports.
