Yemeni journalist Fahd Al-Arhabi was re-arrested by the Houthi rebels in the northern province of Amran on Friday, August 23, 2024, according to sources close to the journalist.
The arrest comes just a year after Al-Arhabi was released from Houthi custody.
Citing sources, Xinhua correspondent in Yemen, Faris Al-Hamri, reported that Al-Arhabi was detained and disappeared two days ago by the Houthi security and intelligence apparatus in Amran.
Sources revealed that Al-Arhabi had previously been held for 75 days by the Houthis in Amran last year. During that period, he was subjected to psychological and physical torture, resulting in a deterioration of his health. He suffers from prostate cancer, an enlarged heart, and stomach ulcers.
Sources attribute the repeated arrest and removal from his position as media officer at the Amran Cement Factory to Al-Arhabi's vocal opposition to the Houthis' seizure of clay quarries belonging to the factory in Sana'a province. The quarries, estimated to contain over 7,000 bricks, were allegedly taken over by a fictitious charity organization called "Nabras al-Khairiyah" headed by the brother of Mehdi al-Mashat, the head of the Houthi political council.
