Bran Press - Monitoring Unit:

Heavy rains, fueled by a deepening low-pressure system, battered several Yemeni governorates on Saturday, August 24, 2024, resulting in fatalities and significant damage to public and private property.

In Dhamar Governorate (central Yemen), local sources reported to Barran Press that a vehicle carrying a funeral procession lost control while attempting to cross floodwaters, resulting in the loss of the deceased and a 10-year-old child who was swept away by the current.

In Amran Governorate (north), local sources told Barran Press that the heavy rains caused collapses and cracks in historic homes in the ancient city of Thala.

In Hodeidah Governorate (west), sources reported to Barran Press that floodwaters swept away a mosque in the Kilo 16 area following torrential rainfall.

In Ibb Governorate (central Yemen), heavy rains triggered rockfalls, causing a major road blockage in the district of Ba'dan. Large rocks fell onto the road, disrupting traffic.

In Al Bayda Governorate (central Yemen), local sources informed Barran Press that heavy rains led to a partial collapse of the wall of the historical Himyarite King Shammar Yahrash castle in the city of Rada'a. The collapse completely destroyed one vehicle and caused damage to trucks parked nearby.

Since the beginning of August, several Yemeni governorates have been experiencing heavy rains, thunderstorms, and flash floods, resulting in the deaths of dozens and causing significant material damage to public and private property.
