Child's Gunplay Leads to Fatal Shooting in Hadhramaut, Yemen

A tragic incident in the city of Seiyun, Hadhramaut Governorate, eastern Yemen, has left one man dead and a child injured after a 15-year-old boy accidentally discharged a firearm.

According to security sources report, in Hadhramaut (Wadi and Desert), seen by "Barran Press", the incident occurred on Sunday, August 25, 2024, when the teenager, identified as S.Y.M.Z., mishandled a weapon and fired it, fatally striking 35-year-old Khairallah Radwan Saleh Al-Marhabi in the head. A 12-year-old boy, Tariq Ziad Tifa, was also injured by shrapnel in the back of the head. The incident took place in the Shishan neighborhood of Seiyun.

Security forces confirmed that they have launched an investigation into the incident, following reports of the shooting and the transportation of the injured to the hospital for treatment. The victim's body has been placed in a morgue. The accused teenager and his father have been detained pending legal proceedings.

Initial reports suggest that the shooting was unintentional and a result of the teenager's reckless handling of the firearm, leading to an accidental discharge. This incident highlights the dangers of unsecured weapons and the importance of responsible gun ownership and safety education.
