A tragic incident in Ibb Governorate, central Yemen, claimed the life of one man and saw four others rescued from flash floods on Sunday, August 25, 2024. The heavy rainfall that swept through the region in recent hours also caused landslides, resulting in the closure of major roadways.

Local sources told "Barran Press" that three young men were swept away by floodwaters while riding a motorcycle in the "Al-Ma'ayn" area, northwest of Ibb City. While two of the men were rescued by locals, the third was carried away by the current, and his fate remains unknown.

In another incident, residents managed to rescue a young man who was swept away by floodwaters in front of the southern gate of Ibb University. Additionally, another young man, identified as "Mohammed Rizq Al-Maqlahi," was rescued after being caught in floodwaters in the "Safda" area, near the city of Al-Nadrah, east of Ibb.

The heavy rainfall that fell on Sunday evening triggered landslides in the "Dar Habba" area of "Samara," blocking the main road connecting Ibb to the governorates of Taiz, Dhamar, and Sana'a.

The severe rainfall that began on Saturday affected several Yemeni governorates, causing damage to historical landmarks and infrastructure. In Redaa city, Bayda Governorate, a portion of the wall of the ancient Himyarite King's castle, "Shamir Yahrash," collapsed. In Thala city, Amran Governorate, historical homes sustained damage from landslides and cracks. In addition, a major road in the city of "Ba'dan," Ibb Governorate, was closed due to landslides triggered by the heavy rainfall.
