Al-Mahwit, Yemen (August 28, 2024): The death toll from torrential rains and flash floods in Malhan district, southwest of Al-Mahwit governorate, has risen to 33, according to local sources. The disaster, which began on Tuesday, has also left numerous people missing and caused widespread damage.
Local sources told Barran Press that the initial count confirmed 33 fatalities, with the number expected to rise as search and rescue efforts continue. The floods have also resulted in the collapse of 28 homes, while an estimated 200 others have been damaged and are at risk of collapse.
Roads leading to the affected areas remain blocked by debris and landslides, hindering access for rescue teams. Local sources report a lack of response from authorities, the Yemeni Red Crescent, and international agencies.
