Taiz, Yemen (August 28, 2024): President of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, along with council members Abdullah Al-Alimi and Othman Majli, laid the foundation stone for a Martyrs' Monument in the historic Cairo Citadel in Taiz City, southwest Yemen.

The monument, according to the official Saba news agency, is being built "in honor and remembrance of the martyrs from Taiz governorate and the Republic who sacrificed their lives in defense of the Republic and the values of freedom, justice, and equal citizenship in the face of the vile sectarian project of the Houthis."

Al-Alimi expressed his pride and that of his council members in inaugurating the construction of this monument to the martyrs of the Republic, including heroes of the armed forces, security forces, all military and security formations, and the popular resistance who have etched their names in the annals of sacrifice and national struggle against the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militias.

He noted that the choice of Taiz for the monument is a recognition of the province's significant sacrifices and the legendary resilience of its people in the decisive battle against the Houthi terrorist militias and their ongoing unjust siege for over a decade.

Al-Alimi reiterated the Presidential Leadership Council's and the government's commitment to providing all forms of care to the wounded and the families of the martyrs, in recognition of their great sacrifices in the pursuit of restoring state institutions, ending the coup, and achieving victory for the values of coexistence, freedom, dignity, and equal citizenship.

The event was attended by the Presidential Leadership Council's advisor for defense and security, Lieutenant General Mahmoud Al-Subaihi, Interior Minister Major General Ibrahim Haidan, and Taiz governor Nabil Shamsan.
