TAIZ, YEMEN—On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, Rashad Al-Alimi, President of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, laid the foundation stone for over 260 development and service projects in Taiz Governorate (southwestern Yemen). The government, local authorities, international agencies, and organizations fund the projects.
According to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, the projects, which were inaugurated alongside Council members Abdullah Al-Alimi and Othman Majli, cover a range of vital sectors. These include 104 externally funded projects with a total cost of $23,297,756 and 156 projects funded by the government and local authorities with an estimated cost of approximately 6 billion Yemeni riyals.
The projects encompass key areas such as agriculture, food security, roads, water, sanitation, health, and education.
President Al-Alimi highlighted the importance of development and humanitarian interventions undertaken by the government, local authorities, and international agencies to alleviate the suffering inflicted upon the Yemeni people by the Houthi terrorist militia. He emphasized the need to prioritize sustainable development projects and interventions.
Earlier on Wednesday, President Al-Alimi and Council members Abdullah Al-Alimi and Othman Majli laid the foundation stone for the Martyrs' Memorial Monument in the historic Cairo Citadel in Taiz.
On Tuesday, August 27, President Al-Alimi arrived in Taiz, marking his first visit to the governorate since assuming power in April 2024. He traveled from Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, accompanied by Council members Othman Majli and Abdullah Al-Alimi, as well as several officials. The visit was met with a large public reception.
