Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council President, Rashad al-Alimi, visited the 35th Armored Division headquarters in Taiz Governorate (southwest of the country) on Thursday, August 29, 2024, accompanied by Council members Abdullah al-Alimi and Othman Majli.

According to the official Yemen News Agency (Saba), al-Alimi received a briefing from the 35th Armored Division leadership on the level of implementation of tasks entrusted to the division in terms of combat, training, and morale. He commended the division's role in "deterring threats from the Houthi terrorist militia and enforcing the authority of the state in its operational theater, which demonstrated unique cohesion in the decisive battle against the Houthi terrorist militia supported by the Iranian regime."

The agency reported that al-Alimi's convoy later stopped at the birthplace of Brigadier General Adnan al-Hamdi, the former commander of the 35th Armored Division, in Bani Hamad, Mawasit District. They recited the Fatiha (opening chapter of the Quran) for the soul of the "great fighter," expressing their condolences for his passing and for all the martyrs of the nation who "sacrificed their blood in defense of legitimacy, the republican system, and confronting the Houthi terrorist militia supported by the Iranian regime."

They expressed their "pride in the heroic feats achieved by the valiant commander, the martyr Adnan al-Hamdi, in the battle to restore state institutions and defend the republican system."

Al-Alimi then inspected the rehabilitation and maintenance project of the strategic Hayjah al-Abd road, which connects the governorates of Taiz, Lahj, and Aden, funded by the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen.

Al-Alimi received a brief explanation about the progress of the vital project, which spans 9 kilometers and includes the implementation of asphalt paving, concrete works, retaining walls along the road, preventing landslides and the collapse of side sand masses, in addition to the rehabilitation of drainage channels, the construction of barriers, and road safety elements, contributing to reducing traffic accidents and facilitating the movement of individuals, goods, and safe vehicle transportation.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council urged the company implementing the project to expedite the completion of the remaining works in the rehabilitation and maintenance of the road, which benefits more than 4 million people, according to the specified standards, specifications, and timeframe.

On Tuesday, August 27, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council arrived in Taiz Governorate, his first visit since assuming power in April 2024. He arrived from Aden, the declared temporary capital of Yemen, accompanied by members of the Presidential Leadership Council, Othman Majli and Abdullah al-Alimi, and a number of officials. The visit was met with a large popular reception.
