Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) President Rashad al-Alimi on Thursday, August 29, 2024, condemned the Houthi militia's "failed terrorist attempt" to target the Safer oil facility, calling it the "latest proof that the group is not a trustworthy peace partner, but a project of destruction and ruin, prioritizing the interests of its supporters over the well-being of the Yemeni people."

The statement came during a meeting with UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg at the Ma'ashiq Palace in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, with PLC member Sheikh Othman Majli present, according to the official Yemeni news agency Saba.

Saba reported that the PLC President received a briefing from the UN envoy on the outcomes of his recent national, regional, and international contacts, as well as his upcoming priorities for de-escalation and reviving the political process, which the Iranian-backed Houthi militia has sabotaged.

Al-Alimi expressed the PLC and government's support for the UN's efforts to launch a comprehensive political process based on the roadmap proposed by Saudi Arabia. He also highlighted their efforts to mitigate the hardships faced by the Yemeni people, exacerbated by the Houthi militia's terrorist attacks on oil facilities and international shipping routes, with support from the Iranian regime.

He emphasized the importance of "keeping local, regional, and international attention focused on the Houthis' practices, including their grave human rights violations, their ongoing arbitrary actions against Yemenia Airlines, which further exacerbate the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people and damage the company's assets and maritime reputation."

Al-Alimi also stressed the importance of "maintaining international unity on the Yemeni issue and listening to the aspirations of the Yemeni people for stability and peace based on relevant international legitimacy resolutions, especially Resolution 2216."

According to the official agency, the UN envoy expressed his condolences to the victims of the recent floods that swept through several Yemeni governorates, expressing his deep appreciation and gratitude to the PLC and the government for their efforts to de-escalate on all fronts and responsibly engage with all initiatives to prevent the country from returning to a full-scale war.

Earlier today, the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced the conclusion of his visit to Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen.

A brief statement released by the envoy's office on the X platform, seen by "Barran Press," stated that "Grundberg" met with the President of the Presidential Leadership Council and exchanged views on "the urgent need for constructive dialogue aimed at de-escalation on a broader scale across Yemen."

"Grundberg" expressed "concern about the situation of detained UN staff," reiterating "the UN Secretary-General's call for their immediate release."

On August 23, the internationally designated terrorist group, the Houthis, targeted the Safer oil facility in Marib Governorate (northeastern Yemen) with three suicide drones, according to a statement from the Yemeni army.

According to the statement published on the official website of the Ministry of Defense, "September Net," the Houthi militia targeted the Safer oil facility with three suicide drones carrying high explosives, which were downed by army forces before they could achieve their objectives.
