Aden, Yemen - Southern Transitional Council (STC) President Aidarous al-Zubaidi on Thursday, August 29, 2024, assigned his counterpart on the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) and his deputy in the STC, Abd al-Rahman al-Mahrami, to manage security, counterterrorism, and the restructuring of southern forces in the southern governorates.
According to the official STC website, under this mandate, Brigadier General al-Mahrami will oversee all security forces, counterterrorism efforts, and the restructuring and reorganization of these forces to enhance security and stability across the south.
The statement added that "the final article of the assignment decision stipulates its implementation from the date of its issuance, the cancellation of any previous assignment that contradicts its provisions, and its publication in the council's official gazette."
Abd al-Rahman al-Mahrami is a member of the PLC, appointed during the power transfer in April 2022, and serves as the commander-in-chief of the Southern Giants Brigades.
In May 2023, the STC appointed both Abd al-Rahman al-Mahrami and Faraj al-Bahsani as deputies to STC President Aidarous al-Zubaidi, as part of a decision to restructure the council's leadership, which comprises 25 members.
