Moscow, Russia - The Russian Parliament (Duma) expressed its readiness on Thursday, August 29, to develop parliamentary relations with the Yemeni House of Representatives, including exchanging visits and delegations, and coordinating efforts in regional and international forums.
This statement came during a meeting in Moscow between Yemen's Foreign Minister in the internationally recognized government, Shae'q Al-Zindani, and the head of the Duma's International Affairs Committee, Leonid Slutsky.
According to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, the meeting discussed "bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to develop and strengthen them."
During the meeting, Al-Zindani emphasized the importance of parliamentary relations between the Yemeni House of Representatives and the Duma, praising the historical bilateral relations with Russia and the position of the Russian Federation's government in supporting the Presidential Leadership Council, the Yemeni government, and the Yemeni people, according to Saba.
The Yemeni Foreign Minister reiterated the government's commitment to engaging in all efforts aimed at ending the war and achieving peace in Yemen based on nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed-upon frameworks.
For his part, the head of the Duma's International Affairs Committee expressed the Russian Parliament's willingness to work towards developing parliamentary relations with the Yemeni House of Representatives, including exchanging visits and delegations, and coordinating efforts in regional and international forums, according to Saba.
On Monday, August 26, the Yemeni Foreign Minister and Minister of Expatriate Affairs in the internationally recognized government arrived in Moscow at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.
In a subsequent statement, Al-Zindani spoke of a positive development in the relationship with Russia, evidenced by the formation of a joint committee, the activation of a number of bilateral agreements, and the move towards signing new cooperation agreements in various economic fields.
