British merchant vessel was attacked by unknown projectiles approximately 70 nautical miles northwest of Salif, Yemen, on Monday, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
The UKMTO issued an advisory early Monday morning, monitored by "Barran Press", stating that the vessel sustained damage, and a third explosion occurred in close proximity to the ship. However, no injuries were reported onboard.
The advisory urged vessels to exercise caution in the area and report any suspicious activity to the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
Since November 2023, the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, has been launching missile and drone attacks against commercial ships in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Gulf of Aden.
These attacks have led to increased maritime insurance costs and prompted many international shipping companies to opt for the significantly longer route around the southern tip of Africa.
To deter the Houthis and protect maritime navigation, the United States formed a multinational coalition in December 2023. Meanwhile, US forces have been conducting intermittent strikes against Houthi military targets.
