Marib, Yemen - Renowned Yemeni author and writer, Jamal Anaam, highlighted the importance of platforms that nurture creative talent in Marib, located in northeastern Yemen, during a lecture on Monday, September 2, 2024. He also commended the media and political activism that has flourished in the governorate over the past decade.

Anaam delivered his lecture, titled "Media and Political Writing," at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Saba Region, addressing students from the media and political science departments. The lecture was attended by several faculty members, journalists, poets, and writers.

According to a "Barran Press" correspondent, Anaam stated, "Marib possesses exceptional creative, cultural, and media capabilities that are a source of pride." He cited numerous examples of media outlets that emerged from the events in Marib, emphasizing their significant role in shaping the civil and military landscape.

The Yemeni author reviewed key milestones in Yemeni journalism, summarizing crucial issues and events covered by the press, particularly in the decade preceding 2011. He discussed the role of journalism in advocating for rights and freedoms, combating corruption within state institutions and the ruling regime, and opposing oppression, confiscation, and restrictions on freedoms.

The lecture sparked discussions about the profession, its ethics, and the current state of professional practice amidst the vast void created by the erosion of journalism and political life in general. Anaam answered questions from students, specialists, and professionals regarding the work environment, challenges faced by the profession, and aspects of hardship amidst the surrounding circumstances.

Marib city is witnessing a vibrant media and cultural movement coinciding with Anaam's visit. Numerous literary, media and political events and evenings have been organized. Anaam's visit has provided an opportunity for young journalists, writers, poets, artists, creators, political and social figures, and opinion leaders to connect.
