Al-Mahweet, Yemen (September 3, 2024): A mountainside collapse has destroyed several homes in a village in Al-Mahweet governorate (northwest Yemen), local sources reported on Tuesday.
The sources told Barran Press that large rocks tumbled from a mountain onto a village in the "Al-Ahjar Al-Mahjar" area of "Shibam Kookban" district, causing the destruction of several buildings. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.
The sources confirmed that residents evacuated homes near the mountain after hearing the sound of rocks before the major collapse and the fall of a large boulder that damaged several structures.
Heavy rains that swept through Al-Mahweet and several other Yemeni governorates in August have triggered numerous landslides in mountainous regions, resulting in casualties and material damage.
