UN Delivers Aid to Yemen Flood Victims on Camelback Amidst Road Destruction

 The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) announced on Wednesday evening that it has delivered aid to over 9,000 families affected by floods in Malhan District, Mahwit Governorate, and other areas in western Yemen. The aid was transported by camel due to the extensive damage to roads.

In a post on X, monitored by "Barran Press," the UN agency stated, "Amidst significant access challenges due to road destruction, the rapid response mechanism led by UNFPA assisted over 9,340 families affected by the floods."

The UNFPA added that these aid packages have been distributed in the governorates of Mahwit, Hodeidah, Hajjah, and Reimah since August 2024, noting that the assistance is provided with support from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund and the European Union.

The fund also shared images of camels transporting aid in mountainous areas of Malhan District, highlighting the difficulty of delivering relief due to road damage caused by the floods.

On August 27, Malhan District witnessed an unprecedented humanitarian disaster caused by heavy rains and floods, resulting in 54 deaths and missing persons, the complete destruction of 43 homes, and damage to approximately 200,000 families.
