The human rights organization SAM for Rights and Freedoms reported that a court affiliated with the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by the international community, has sentenced a police chief and six of his officers to death. The officers had resisted a violent raid on a police station in Sana'a by a Houthi leader.

In a statement seen by "Barran Press," SAM stated that the Sana'a Court of Appeal, under Houthi control, issued the death sentence on September 4, 2024, against Colonel Yahya Hazem Al-Jayafi, head of the "Dila'a Shmelan" police station, and six of his officers.

The human rights organization claimed that the verdict was reached after a "sham trial that did not adhere to legal principles or fair trial procedures."

SAM emphasized that the incident "highlights the judiciary's role as a tool for the group to eliminate opponents and critics, and a means of strengthening and protecting its own security at the expense of public peace."

It was reported that Al-Jayafi and his colleagues had resisted an armed attack on the "Dila'a Shmelan" police station on June 17, 2020, led by Houthi leader "Lutf Ziad," also known as "Abu Ayoub."

SAM's statement clarified that the Houthi leader's attack on the station was "to release prisoners accused of murder. During the clash, an officer and the prison warden were killed, while others were injured. The Houthi leader, Abu Ayoub, was also killed."
