Lightning Strikes Kill 13, Injure 11 in Yemen Amidst Heavy Rains

 A recent surge in lightning strikes across Yemen has resulted in a tragic loss of life and injuries. Since the beginning of September, 13 Yemeni citizens, including children, have been killed and 11 others injured by lightning strikes in the governorates of Taiz, Al-Mahwit, Amran, and Hajjah. This brings the total number of lightning-related casualties in the country to 105 since the start of July, with 72 fatalities and 33 injuries.

According to reports from "Barran Press," the most recent incidents include:

• Taiz: Four individuals, including three in the Al-Hurriya market and a soldier in the Al-Mokha district, were killed by lightning strikes.
• Al-Mahwit: A father and son were killed by lightning in the Al-Hadani village.
• Amran: A young man, a child, and a woman were killed by lightning, while 10 others sustained injuries across various areas of the governorate.
• Hajjah: A child was killed and a woman injured by lightning in the Al-Kaidnah district, which experienced heavy rains and severe thunderstorms last Friday, September 6.

The increase in lightning strikes coincides with the onset of the autumn rainy season. Since July, "Barran Press" has documented 59 deaths, including women and children, and 22 injuries due to thunderstorms in several governorates.

These incidents highlight the dangers of lightning strikes, particularly during the rainy season. Experts advise seeking shelter indoors during thunderstorms and avoiding open areas, tall trees, and bodies of water.
