On Monday, September 9, 2024, the Houthi group, which is internationally designated as a terrorist organization, reported that a US airstrike targeted its positions in Al-Hodeidah Governorate in northwestern Yemen.

According to the group’s Al-Masirah website, the airstrike, which it claimed was conducted by US and British forces, struck the Al-Jabana area west of the city of Al-Hodeidah, although no further details on the attack were provided.

The Houthis also indicated that US aircraft carried out three airstrikes on Sunday, September 8, targeting the Maytam area east of Ibb city.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the destruction of three drones and two missile systems belonging to the Houthi group in the past 24 hours.

In a statement reviewed by "Barran Press," CENTCOM said, "Over the last 24 hours, US Central Command forces successfully destroyed three unmanned aerial vehicles and two missile systems in an area controlled by the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen."

The statement added that these systems posed an "imminent threat" to US forces, coalition troops, and commercial vessels in the region, noting that such actions are taken to "protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer."

Since November 2023, the Houthi group has continued its missile and drone attacks against commercial shipping in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Gulf of Aden, leading to increased maritime insurance costs and prompting many international shipping companies to opt for the much longer route around the southern tip of Africa.

To deter the Houthis and protect maritime traffic, the United States formed a multinational coalition in December 2023, while US forces periodically conduct strikes against Houthi military targets.
