The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, that it had destroyed two missile systems, one support vehicle, and a drone belonging to the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by the international community, within the past 24 hours.

In a statement reviewed by "Baran Press," CENTCOM reported that within the past 24 hours, US forces successfully targeted and eliminated the Iranian-backed Houthi missile systems and a support vehicle in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.

The statement continued, "US Central Command forces also successfully destroyed a Houthi drone over the Red Sea."

CENTCOM stated that "these systems posed a clear and imminent threat to US forces, coalition forces, and commercial vessels in the region." The statement emphasized that these actions are taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer for US forces, coalition forces, and commercial vessels.

Since last November, the Houthi group has continued its attacks using missiles and drones against commercial cargo ships in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Gulf of Aden.

These attacks have led to increased maritime insurance costs and prompted many international shipping companies to favor the much longer route around the southern tip of the African continent.

To deter the Houthis and protect maritime navigation, the United States formed a multinational coalition in December 2023. US forces have been carrying out strikes against Houthi military targets on an intermittent basis.
