Yemeni Health Minister Seeks French Expertise to Bolster Health Sector

Yemeni Health Minister Dr. Qasim Buhaibeh met with French Ambassador to Yemen Catherine Corm-Kammounon Tuesday, September 10, 2024, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in the health sector and exploring the possibility of transferring French expertise in supporting and developing healthcare systems in various countries.

According to the official Saba News Agency, Buhaibah briefed the ambassador on the state of the health sector and the challenges it faces amid dwindling funding. He emphasized Yemen's need for support to bridge the gap created by the decline in donor assistance.

The minister commended France's support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government, highlighting its consistent rejection of the Houthi militia's attacks on Yemeni civilians and vital infrastructure, as well as their threats to international navigation and trade.

Ambassador Corm-Kammoun reiterated France's unwavering commitment to supporting the Yemeni government and people, as well as the efforts of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen to achieve peace. She expressed her willingness to explore solutions for funding and support in areas such as training and qualification of healthcare professionals, medical referral programs, emergency services, mobile diagnostic clinics, rehabilitation, and training in conflict-affected areas.
