Marib Deputy Governor, AbduRabbu Miftah, met on Monday, September 16th, 2024, with a team from the Hadhramaut Foundation for Cancer Control, led by Mohammed Salem, to discuss strengthening partnerships and cooperation for the establishment of a specialized cancer treatment center in the governorate. The aim is to alleviate the suffering of patients and reduce the need for them to travel abroad or to other governorates for treatment.

The meeting, according to the official Saba news agency, also discussed avenues for cooperation to expedite the implementation of the project on the ground. This is crucial to ease the suffering of thousands of cancer patients in Marib, where the incidence of this malignant disease is increasing. The governorate is home to over 3 million people, most of whom are internally displaced.

The head of the Hadhramaut Foundation team provided a detailed explanation of the visit to Marib, which aims to conduct field studies, identify available resources, and explore opportunities for establishing a comprehensive cancer treatment project in the governorate. This project is a top priority due to the urgent need and the large population, with the goal of alleviating the suffering of patients and reducing travel costs.

Separately, Miftah met with the Executive Director of the Hadhramaut Foundation for Rural Development, Mohammed bin Fadhl, and his accompanying team, who are visiting the governorate. They discussed the level of implementation of the foundation's current interventions in food and shelter for displaced persons in the governorate, in coordination with the Executive Unit for the Management of IDP Camps.

Miftah listened to a presentation about the foundation's key projects, its humanitarian role, its areas of work, and its international, national, and regional humanitarian partnerships.

Miftah emphasized the importance of strengthening the humanitarian partnership between the local authorities and the foundation, and the possibility of expanding its humanitarian interventions, particularly regarding the emergency response project to assist those affected by the recent rains and storms in the governorate.
