On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the Saudi King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center's "MASAM" project announced that its teams successfully removed 2,474 mines during the second week of September. These mines were reportedly planted by the Houthi group, which is internationally designated as a terrorist organization, in various Yemeni governorates.

In a statement shared with "Barran Press," the project detailed that among the removed munitions were six anti-personnel mines, 28 anti-tank mines, 2,439 unexploded ordnance, and one improvised explosive device.

Since the start of the Masam project, a total of 460,951 mines have been cleared as of mid-September. These mines were indiscriminately scattered across several Yemeni provinces, resulting in hundreds of casualties, including women, children, and the elderly.

United Nations reports indicate that the Houthi group has planted approximately two million mines in areas under its control, causing over 20,000 civilian deaths and injuries, with a significant number of victims being women and children. rights organizations have accused the Houthis of "turning Yemen into the largest minefield in history" due to the extensive use of landmines. These groups have repeatedly called on the Houthi militia to provide maps of the planted mines to aid organizations engaged in demining efforts.
