On Saturday, September 21, 2024, the organization Musawaah for Rights and Freedoms reported that the internationally designated terrorist group, the Houthis, has abducted 33 civilians in recent days across areas under their control. This crackdown follows calls for celebrations marking the 62nd anniversary of the September 26 Revolution.
In a statement shared with “Barran Press,” the organization condemned the widespread kidnappings carried out by the Houthis, targeting politicians, journalists, human rights activists, and anyone advocating for the commemoration of the revolution.
Musawaah called for the immediate and unconditional release of all abducted individuals, describing these actions as further evidence of the authoritarian nature of the group, which seeks to suppress the Yemeni people's right to celebrate their revolution and stifle any signs of celebration.
The organization urged the United Nations Secretary-General, the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and all human rights organizations to exert real and effective pressure on the Houthis to halt these “blatant violations” and ensure respect for human rights and freedom of expression in Yemen.
