Thunderstorm Strikes Leave 5 Dead or Injured in Three Yemeni Provinces

On Saturday, September 21, 2024, local sources reported that five citizens have died or been injured due to lightning strikes in the provinces of Lahij, Taiz, and Ibb. This brings the total number of casualties from lightning strikes since July to 110, including both fatalities and injuries.

According to reports obtained by "Barran Press," a man identified as Qa'id Abdu Ali Jamih, in his sixties, was killed by a lightning strike in the village of Al-Asha in the Qabaita District of Lahij province.

Additionally, a lightning strike claimed the life of a child named Taj Al-Din Ismail Suleiman in the village of Al-Mahla, located in the Harath district of Ibb province.

In Ibb, another lightning strike resulted in the death of 28 heads of livestock in the Wadi Boukar area of Bani Ahmad in the Far'a Al-Adeen district.

Local sources in Taiz province reported that a lightning strike led to the deaths of two girls and left a third girl with severe burns in the Al-Mafraq area of the Mawiya district.

Moreover, a lightning strike in Taiz also caused the death of five camels belonging to a local resident, Muhammad Saif Muhammad A'id, in the Shuqab area of the Sharab Al-Rawna district.

As the autumn rainy season begins, incidents of lightning strikes have surged. "Barran Press" has documented 72 fatalities, including women and children, and 33 injuries from lightning strikes across various provinces since early July, raising the toll to a total of 76 dead and 34 injured.
