New York, September 22, 2024 - Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, stated on Sunday that the Palestinian cause will remain a central issue for the Yemeni people and their political leadership, despite the dire circumstances imposed by the Iran-aligned Houthi group, which is internationally classified as a terrorist organization.
Al-Alimi made these remarks during a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, alongside council members Aidrous Al-Zubaidi and Othman Majli, in New York, according to the official Saba news agency.
The discussions focused on coordinating joint positions in regional and international forums, particularly concerning the cessation of Israeli occupation crimes and accelerating humanitarian aid access to the Palestinian people.
During the meeting, Al-Alimi and the council members reiterated Yemen's steadfast support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate aspirations for an independent and sovereign state.
The two leaders exchanged views on enhancing diplomatic relations between their countries and addressing various issues of mutual concern.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war in Gaza, with complete U.S. support, resulting in over 136,000 Palestinian casualties, most of whom are women and children, along with more than 10,000 reported missing amid widespread destruction and a devastating famine.
