On September 24, 2024, the Marib branch of the General People's Congress strongly condemned the escalating campaign of arrests, raids, and intimidation carried out by the Houthi group, which is internationally designated as a terrorist organization. This crackdown targets party members and others in Sana’a and areas under Houthi control, coinciding with the public's celebration of the 62nd anniversary of the September 26 Revolution.

In a statement received by Barran Press, the party held the Houthis fully responsible for the safety of arrested individuals, including writers, intellectuals, lawyers, and teachers, as well as other community members.

The party called on the Yemeni people in Houthi-controlled areas to intensify their efforts to celebrate the national holiday of the September 26 Revolution, asserting it as a natural and constitutional right, and to defend their revolution and its achievements that the Houthis seek to erase.

The Congress urged the United Nations, the international community, and human rights organizations to protect the Yemeni people's right to celebrate the September 26 Revolution and to exert pressure on the Houthi group to halt its violations and arrests. They demanded the immediate release of all detainees and those forcibly disappeared without condition.

According to human rights statistics, the Houthi group has kidnapped over 270 civilians in the capital, Sana’a, and various other provinces under its control, including journalists, educators, and activists, due to their social media posts expressing intentions to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of the September 26 Revolution.

In recent days, the Houthis have undertaken a wave of abductions targeting activists and social and political figures, particularly in areas like Sana’a, Taiz, and Hodeidah, amid growing public preparations for the anniversary celebrations.
