Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, commended the people of Ibb Governorate (central Yemen) for their steadfast resistance against Houthi repression, according to the official Saba news agency.

During a meeting with Ibb Governor Abdulwahab Al-Waili, Bin Mubarak lauded the residents' resilience in the face of Houthi crackdowns, emphasizing their unwavering commitment to the principles of the 1962 revolution. He pledged unwavering support for their sacrifices, describing them as "defenders of a great humanitarian revolution that birthed a nation, liberating its people from slavery to freedom, and from tyranny to dignity."

The Prime Minister highlighted the Houthi group's—designated a terrorist organization by several countries—widespread campaign of repression and abductions targeting any celebrations of the September 26th Revolution, which ended the imamate and established the republic. He characterized these actions as a stark illustration of the group's understanding of peace and national interest.

Bin Mubarak received a preliminary report from Governor Al-Waili detailing the extensive violations and abductions perpetrated by the Houthis against citizens and social leaders for their participation in the September 26th Revolution commemorations. He stressed the importance of documenting these violations and identifying perpetrators, urging all Yemenis to unite around the national values established by the September 26th Revolution, defending its principles, and preserving its achievements.

Since early September, Ibb has witnessed a wave of Houthi abductions targeting dozens of individuals involved in celebrating the anniversary. The crackdown has affected tribal and party leaders, journalists, activists, university and school students, and even street vendors, extending to Houthi-controlled governorates such as Sana'a, Dhamar, Amran, and Hodeidah.

Yemenis will commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the establishment of the republic and the fall of the imamate on Thursday, September 26th, 2024. As September began, Yemenis took to social media to share symbols and songs celebrating the September 26th Revolution.

Since seizing control, the internationally recognized terrorist group, the Houthis—an extension of the imamate—have systematically erased celebrations of the September 26th Revolution from the curriculum and media, replacing it with the anniversary of their 2014 takeover of Sana'a.

The September 26th Revolution in northern Yemen in 1962 overthrew the Zaydi imamate, establishing the Yemen Arab Republic. A year later, the October 14th Revolution in southern Yemen challenged British colonial rule, culminating in independence on November 30th, 1967.
