On September 25, 2024, Rashad Al-Alimi, the Chairman of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, declared that "victory over the Iranian project is the only option." He emphasized that the freedom and dignity of Yemenis depend on the outcome of this pivotal battle.
In a speech marking the 62nd anniversary of the September 26 Revolution, which will be celebrated tomorrow, Al-Alimi expressed his admiration for the enduring spirit of the Yemeni people, who consistently honor their national milestones and the leaders of the great revolution.
"This occasion is not just a celebration of our people's heroism," he stated, "but a vital project that prioritizes the liberation of our land from terrorism, oppression, ignorance, and the injustices perpetuated by the Houthi militia."
Al-Alimi noted that the early celebrations each year reaffirm the flame of change that burns brightly in the hearts of Yemenis, illuminating the meanings of freedom, human dignity, equal citizenship, and popular sovereignty.
He described the widespread enthusiasm for the revolution's anniversary in various provinces as a popular referendum reflecting the timeless principles of September and the Yemeni people's rejection of the new Imamate and its unlawful coup.
"The future of Yemen will faithfully extend its great history, expressing the sacrifices, heroism, and quest for freedom," he added, emphasizing that today’s generations will continue the legacy of heroic figures like Ali Abd al-Mughni and Abdullah al-Sallal.
Addressing citizens in Houthi-controlled areas, Al-Alimi criticized the Houthis for choosing chaos over stability and committing treason when Yemenis leaned towards democracy. He accused them of plundering state institutions and burdening citizens with taxes.
He commended the armed forces and security personnel for their valiant efforts across various fronts, expressing unwavering confidence in their capabilities, backed by divine support and the justice of their cause.
Al-Alimi stated that a secure and prosperous future for Yemen is impossible without a close relationship with Arab nations, particularly the Saudi-led coalition supporting legitimacy. He underlined that this fate is tied not only to the present but also to the historical and geographical realities that transcend individual ambitions and crises.
Regarding peace, he asserted that options for negotiation are only viable through seriousness, readiness, and trust in loyal allies, warning against falling prey to illusions that lead to disappointment and victimization.
He emphasized the importance of building and reforming institutions, combating corruption and chaos, and establishing a secure environment in liberated provinces to improve economic and security conditions.
Al-Alimi urged the government to complete its institutional framework, activate laws and regulations, and develop clear plans to enhance revenue and social functions of state institutions while protecting rights and freedoms.
On a regional note, he reaffirmed the sacred status of Palestine in the hearts of Yemenis, rejecting efforts by Israel and Iran to undermine this cause. Al-Alimi condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestinians and called for unity among Arab and Islamic nations in confronting the injustices of the Israeli occupation.
He urged the international community to hold Israel accountable for its actions and to provide urgent relief to the besieged Palestinian people, supporting their aspirations for an independent and sovereign state.
The September 26 Revolution of 1962 marked the end of the Imamate rule in Yemen, which was characterized by hunger, ignorance, and disease, paving the way for a republican system based on principles of social justice and equal citizenship.
