On September 30, 2024, Yemen's internationally recognized government reaffirmed its commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) despite the difficult circumstances the country faces. This declaration came during a virtual meeting between Waed Badhib, Yemen's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation and Acting Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and ambassadors from European Union (EU) countries.

According to the official Yemen News Agency, Saba, the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in development and communications sectors. It also addressed the challenges facing humanitarian and developmental efforts in areas under Houthi control, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and security of international organization personnel.

Minister Badhib outlined the government's developmental approach, which aims to transition from reliance on foreign aid to self-sufficiency. He highlighted ongoing efforts in combating corruption, financial and administrative reform, and economic resource development.

He stated, "The government has maintained a national team to prepare the voluntary national review as a sustainable institutional mechanism to monitor progress and propose necessary reforms."

The minister also discussed plans to develop telecommunications infrastructure, addressing challenges in modernizing networks and expanding digital services. He underscored the importance of international cooperation in cybersecurity and the need for continued support in community engagement, participatory planning, and collaboration between Yemen and the EU to achieve sustainable and effective development outcomes across various sectors, including communications and information technology.

In response, the European ambassadors praised the efforts of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, expressing their appreciation for the open dialogue with all governmental bodies.

The Sustainable Development Goals represent a global call to action aimed at eradicating poverty, protecting the planet's environment and climate, and ensuring peace and prosperity for all people. They focus on addressing the critical developmental challenges faced by individuals in Yemen and around the world.
