On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, an official human rights report accused the Houthi group, classified as a terrorist organization, of committing 2,500 violations against civilians in the capital, Sana'a, over the past two years (2022-2023).

The report, issued by the Human Rights Office in Sana'a and obtained by "Barran Press," detailed 14 types of violations, including killings, injuries, torture, abduction, looting of public and private property, child recruitment, forced displacement, sectarianism, abuse of power, and attacks on judicial institutions.

According to the report, these violations resulted in the deaths of 38 civilians, including 20 cases of death under torture and 18 killed by direct gunfire. Additionally, there were 261 recorded injuries and 284 cases of abduction and enforced disappearance, along with 251 instances of torture and cruel, inhumane treatment.

The report also highlighted the Houthis' prevention of citizens from celebrating the national holiday of the September 26 Revolution in 2023. It noted that when citizens spontaneously took to the streets waving the republican flag, they were attacked, and the flag was torn and disrespected, resulting in the abduction of dozens.

The report accused the Houthis of implementing a policy of systematic starvation, oppression, and impoverishment of the population, alongside the ongoing looting of government salaries, militarization of society, and restrictions on freedom of opinion, expression, and other civil liberties, undermining the republican system.

Fahmi Al-Zubairi, director of the Human Rights Office in Sana'a, stated in comments reported by the Yemeni news agency Saba that the continued violations by the Houthi group against Yemenis demonstrate their failure to sectarianize society and impose their sectarian agenda based on a theory of racial discrimination, which he claimed contradicts the republican system and the achievements of the September 26 Revolution.
