On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, GCC Secretary-General Jasem Al-Budaiwi urged for calm in the region, affirming solidarity with Lebanon during this critical period.

In his closing remarks following an emergency ministerial meeting of Gulf states, Al-Budaiwi emphasized the need for all parties in Lebanon to exercise restraint and highlighted the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the Taif Agreement concerning Lebanon.

He also called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, warning of the severe consequences of escalating tensions throughout the region.

The Middle East is currently experiencing rising tensions after Iran launched 200 missiles at Israel on Tuesday, marking its largest attack to date, prompting strong retaliatory threats from both Israel and the United States against Tehran.

Additionally, the Lebanese-Israeli border has seen violent clashes, resulting in the deaths of eight Israeli soldiers today, marking the largest losses for the Israeli military on the Lebanese front in a year.
