On Thursday, October 3, 2024, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein met with U.S. Special Envoy to Yemen Timothy Lenderking to discuss the ongoing conflict in Yemen, its impact on the population, and international efforts to bring it to an end and achieve stability.

The meeting took place during Lenderking's unspecified-duration visit to Baghdad, as reported in a statement from the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, which was relayed by Turkey's Anadolu Agency.

The statement highlighted that the discussions addressed the current situation in Yemen, including the humanitarian and political challenges facing the country, while also reviewing the ongoing conflict's repercussions on the population.

Both sides explored "international and regional initiatives aimed at halting the fighting and achieving stability," according to the same statement.

The importance of providing urgent humanitarian assistance to affected populations was underscored, along with a review of ongoing humanitarian projects and a call for the international community to enhance its support.

The two officials emphasized the necessity of continuing dialogue among all parties and encouraged the international community to support peace efforts in Yemen.

On December 23 of last year, the United Nations announced that Yemeni parties had reached understanding to commit to a series of measures, including a nationwide ceasefire, steps to improve living conditions, and preparations to resume an inclusive political process under UN auspices.

However, the roadmap and peace efforts in Yemen have stalled due to Houthi attacks, designated as a terrorist group, targeting commercial shipping vessels in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Gulf of Aden since November.
