On Friday, October 4, 2024, the city of Marib witnessed a protest condemning the ongoing “genocide” being perpetrated by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip, as well as attacks on civilians in Lebanon and assaults on the port city of Al-Hudaydah.

Following Friday prayers at Al-Dhaban Mosque, participants in the demonstration chanted slogans denouncing the continuing atrocities in Gaza, the ongoing violations in the West Bank, and the recent aggression against the Lebanese people and Yemeni sovereignty.

The protest's statement, which was shared with Barran Press, called on the International Court of Justice and the global community to fulfill their responsibilities in halting the genocide, ethnic cleansing, and brutal massacres against the Palestinian people.

The statement condemned the “targeting of civilians in brotherly Lebanon, which is facing a brutal ground invasion by the Israeli entity, in violation of another Arab nation's sovereignty amidst a shameful international silence.”

It also condemned in the strongest terms the “aggressive Israeli violations of Yemeni sovereignty through repeated attacks on the port of Al-Hudaydah and the electricity generation station, with the latest occurring on the evening of October 3, 2024.”

The statement held the Houthi movement responsible for inviting external interventions since their disastrous coup, emphasizing that the Israeli targeting of Al-Hudaydah port was an attack on national capabilities and public civilian interests.

Additionally, it reiterated a firm rejection of leaving Yemen's fate in the hands of the Houthi group, which “is being used by Iran as an armed wing to kill Yemenis, destroy the country’s resources, and engage in actions outside the national consensus, dragging the Yemeni people into futile battles that serve Tehran’s interests and expansionist agenda in the region.”

The statement urged Arab and Islamic governments, as well as the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to recognize their responsibilities and take all necessary actions to confront the looming dangers facing the region.

It called on Iran to immediately cease its blatant interventions in Arab and Islamic countries and to stop using its armed proxies to destabilize security and stability, spreading ideological and physical terrorism under false pretenses and expansionist ambitions that contradict international laws and the sovereignty of independent states.

For nearly a year, Marib has seen solidarity events supporting the Palestinian people and rejecting the devastating war waged against them by Israeli forces, backed by unprecedented American and Western support.

Hundreds of citizens from various social and political backgrounds, civil society organizations, and students from universities and educational institutes participated in these protests.
