The American Center for Justice (ACJ) called on U.S. Congress members on Saturday, October 5, 2024, to take immediate action to stop Israeli attacks on civilian infrastructure in Yemen and prevent further destruction.
This appeal was made in a letter addressed to members of Congress, particularly Representatives Debbie Dingell and Rashida Tlaib from Michigan, according to a statement published on the center's official website, which was reviewed by "Baran Press."
The ACJ strongly condemned the Israeli strikes on Yemen's civilian infrastructure, deeming them "blatant violations of international law and fundamental human rights principles."
The letter emphasized the devastating impact of these airstrikes on the humanitarian situation in the country, particularly following the destruction of key civilian facilities, including the Hudaydah (Salif) port, Hudaydah airport, and the city's main power station, all targeted in Israeli attacks on September 29, 2024.
In their correspondence, the center expressed grave concern over the escalating humanitarian crisis, highlighting the "severe consequences" of destroying the power station, which has led to widespread electricity outages in the region, especially amid extreme heat waves. Additionally, the attacks have significantly reduced access to healthcare, clean water, and essential services for the population.
The ACJ urged U.S. Congress members—particularly Dingell and Tlaib—to take prompt action by exerting diplomatic pressure on Israel to cease its attacks and prevent further destruction while ensuring compliance with international humanitarian law. They called on the international community to "act swiftly to prevent a worsening crisis."
On September 29, the Israeli occupation launched airstrikes targeting the power station, port, and airport in Hudaydah, resulting in ignited oil tanks at the port and causing substantial damage to the airport.
