On Sunday, October 6, 2024, Yemen's official news agency Saba reported that security forces in Socotra Province successfully rescued 30 passengers from drowning after their fiberglass vessel began to take on water, approximately 9 miles off the coast of Qalansiyah in the northern part of the archipelago.
The agency stated that the Qalansiyah and Abd al-Kuri security departments, along with the Coast Guard, responded to the emergency. They received a distress call from the fiberglass boat, which was in peril due to water leakage.
According to Captain Said Ahmed Mohammed, the head of the Coast Guard branch in the province, the vessel was traveling from Ash-Shihr Port in Hadramout to Socotra with 30 local passengers on board.
Upon receiving the distress signal, response boats were dispatched to the vessel's location, and the passengers were safely transferred to the shores of Qalansiyah in good health. Meanwhile, the boat’s crew continued sailing towards Hawlaf Port.
