Forty passengers escaped unharmed when their bus caught fire in Abyan governorate, southern Yemen, on Monday, October 7th, 2024. The bus, belonging to Al-Afdal International Transportation Company, was traveling from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to Aden, Yemen's temporary capital.

The incident occurred in the Hasan area, east of Zinjibar, the capital of Abyan. According to local sources, a fire erupted in the bus, engulfing it completely. Passengers managed to evacuate before the flames consumed the vehicle, although several suitcases were destroyed.

Preliminary reports suggest a mechanical fault caused the fire. Sources highlighted the absence of effective civil defense services in Abyan, noting that similar bus fires have occurred in the region previously. The lack of readily available emergency response raises concerns about the safety of travelers in the area.
