Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, issued an apology to Yemenis living in the United States after describing them as "known terrorists" during a recent rally in Pennsylvania. In a message broadcasted during a meeting with Yemeni-American Hamtramck Mayor Amir Ghaleb, Trump promised to address the issues facing Yemen and to make the world a better place to live.
During the meeting, Trump praised Mayor Ghaleb and the Yemeni community for their support in his campaign, which recently opened a dedicated office in Hamtramck, a city with a significant Muslim population.
In a video shared by Mayor Ghaleb on Facebook, Trump lamented, "It's a shame people and the world are going through what they are these days," vowing to improve conditions globally.
Mayor Ghaleb confirmed that Trump expressed remorse for his remarks, stating that Trump did not intend to promote such narratives. Ghaleb emphasized that Trump respects Yemeni Americans and will work to resolve their issues both in the U.S. and in Yemen. He noted that while he could not compel Trump to convey all of this in the video, further steps would be taken to show appreciation for the Yemeni American community.
Trump's controversial comments about Yemenis had sparked significant backlash, prompting the need for this public apology.
