In an exclusive interview with Barran Press, Major General Dhiyab Al-Qabali, commander of the 143rd Infantry Brigade, paid tribute to the late General Abdelrab Qasim Al-Shaddadi, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to the nation and the cause of the Yemeni people. Al-Qabali remarked that Al-Shaddadi viewed all battlefronts against the Houthi group as part of his responsibility.
During the interview commemorating the eighth anniversary of Al-Shaddadi's martyrdom, Al-Qabali described him as a "great leader" who emerged during challenging times when state institutions were falling to the Houthis. He noted that Al-Shaddadi was a visible leader in all situations.
Al-Qabali recounted the difficult circumstances when Al-Shaddadi took command of the 3rd Military Region in April 2015, highlighting the lack of organized military forces, equipment, and resources. Al-Shaddadi managed to rally support from local communities and military personnel, creating a cohesive force to counter Houthi advances.
Describing Al-Shaddadi as a "brave, honest, and decisive" leader, Al-Qabali emphasized his meticulous oversight of operations and his proactive approach in forming military units comprised of resistance fighters from various fronts.
Al-Qabali detailed how Al-Shaddadi proposed the formation of the 143rd Brigade, which became the first military unit to undertake a mission agreed upon by Al-Shaddadi, the Chief of Staff, and local leadership. This unit played a crucial role in the liberation of strategic areas in Marib.
He also recounted Al-Shaddadi's hands-on leadership during significant operations, including planning the "Victory 2" battle, where he was actively involved in reconnaissance and troop coordination.
Despite facing injury during a mission, Al-Shaddadi refused to withdraw and continued to lead his troops at the front lines, showcasing his dedication to the cause. Al-Qabali noted that even after Al-Shaddadi's martyrdom on October 7, 2016, his legacy inspired those around him to continue fighting fiercely against the Houthis.
Reflecting on Al-Shaddadi's character, Al-Qabali stated that he operated on a national level, prioritizing the interests of the nation and its people over any factional concerns. His commitment extended beyond the immediate region, as he maintained communication and support for various fronts across Yemen.
Al-Qabali concluded by affirming that Al-Shaddadi instilled vital values and principles within the ranks of the military, asserting that the spirit of Al-Shaddadi continues to guide and motivate Yemeni forces in their ongoing struggle for victory.
