The city of Taiz in southwestern Yemen hosted a vibrant artistic and ceremonial event on Sunday, October 13, to commemorate the 61st anniversary of the October 14 Revolution. The celebration was attended by local authorities, military leaders, and security officials.

In his speech during the event, Taiz’s Deputy Governor for Defense and Security, Major General Abdul Karim Al-Sabri, emphasized that celebrating the October 14 anniversary is a tribute to the revolutionaries who displayed remarkable bravery in the battle against British colonial rule in 1963.

Al-Sabri stated, "This celebration renews the spirit of the revolution that lifted the burden of oppression from the shoulders of our people. Taiz played a significant role as a supportive environment for the revolutionaries and in preparing for resistance against colonialism and the Imamate."

Additionally, Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Najjar, Deputy Chief of Staff for the Taiz Axis, reflected on the tumultuous journey of the October 14 Revolution, noting that the determination and will of the revolutionaries surpassed the capabilities of the colonizers, resulting in a decisive victory in an uneven battle.

Al-Najjar also highlighted Taiz's continuous contributions to the victories of both the September 26 and October 14 revolutions, reaffirming the city’s commitment to the national project and its ongoing sacrifices in the fight against Houthi militias.

Throughout the event, various speeches celebrated the heroic acts and enduring legacies of those who resisted colonial rule, recounting the sacrifices made until the last British soldier departed from southern Yemen.

As Yemenis prepare to celebrate the 61st anniversary of the revolution on October 14, they reflect on the legacy of the uprising that ended more than a century of British occupation, ignited by the revolutionary spirit of figures like Rajeh Labouza from the mountains of Radfan.
