The Yemeni delegation, led by Speaker Sultan Al Barakani, walked out of the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly on Tuesday in Geneva during a speech by the Israeli representative.
In a statement released on its official website reviewed by Barran Press, the Yemeni Parliament condemned Israel's "horrific criminal practices" against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples as the reason for their withdrawal. The delegation expressed solidarity with the suffering caused by the ongoing conflict in Gaza, particularly the impact on children, women, and the elderly.
The statement elaborated that while attending the assembly, the Israeli delegation presented a specific agenda item, prompting the Yemeni delegation and the Arab group to exit in protest against the violence and destruction in Gaza.
Despite the walkout, the Yemeni delegation, headed by Al Barakani, intends to continue participating in the IPU Assembly, which runs from October 13 to 17 in Geneva.
A video posted on the Parliament's X (formerly Twitter) page captured the moment of the delegation's exit, highlighting their stance against the situation in Gaza.
