A teacher in Amran, northern Yemen, reportedly committed suicide after being evicted from his school housing, where he had lived for over 16 years. Local sources  to Barran Press identified the teacher as Mukhtar Ali Qasim Al-Ariqi, originally from the Al-Arouq area in the Taiz governorate.

The eviction occurred at Al-Majd School in the Qailab district of Maswar, following the appointment of a Houthi leader as the school’s new director. The first decision made by the newly appointed official was to remove Al-Ariqi from the school housing, which he occupied with his family, and replace them with his own relatives, despite Al-Ariqi owning a home in the same area.

Sources indicated that the eviction forced Al-Ariqi to seek shelter in the city of Amran, but due to the deteriorating economic conditions, his declining health, and the psychological distress he faced, he ultimately took his own life.

Community members expressed deep sorrow over Al-Ariqi's death, noting that he held a university degree and was well-regarded for his dedication and commitment to teaching at Al-Majd School since his assignment there years ago. There was widespread condemnation of the Houthi group's actions, highlighting that they imposed an unqualified individual to manage the school.

The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who view it as a collective shame that reflects poorly on the community.
