The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning has forecasted varying intensities of thunderstorms across 14 Yemeni provinces within the next 24 hours. The forecast, released on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, indicates strong winds in coastal areas and rough seas.

According to the center’s daily report, reviewed by Barran Press, mountainous regions are expected to experience partly cloudy to clear skies with thunderstorms in parts of Lahij, Taiz, Ibb, Al-Dhale, Raymah, Al-Mahwit, Hajjah, and western Saada, as well as in sections of Al-Mahrah, Hadhramaut, Shabwa, and Abyan.

Coastal areas are predicted to see partly cloudy to overcast conditions with thunderstorms and strong winds affecting the eastern coast of Aden Bay and the shores of Al-Mahrah and Hadhramaut, along with sporadic rain accompanied by thunder in parts of the Tihama plain and western and southern coasts.

The center noted that desert regions may experience clear to partly cloudy weather, with scattered rain in parts of the deserts of Al-Mahrah, Hadhramaut, and Shabwa, along with moderate winds that may stir up dust and sand.

In light of these conditions, the National Center for Meteorology has warned fishermen and ship captains of turbulent seas and high waves in the eastern Aden Bay and coastal areas of Al-Mahrah and the Socotra Archipelago. Citizens are advised to avoid riverbeds and flood-prone areas during and after rainstorms and to exercise caution in the event of thunderstorms. Drivers are urged to be vigilant due to reduced visibility on mountainous roads caused by fog, mist, or low-lying clouds.
