Local sources reported on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, that a 32-year-old man took his own life by hanging in Bani Hushaish district, east of the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, due to the difficult living conditions faced by his family.

The man, identified as Sobhi Hamoud Al-Sarfi, was found dead in his home in the village of Sarf after he had closed his room and remained silent for an extended period. His family grew concerned when they could not hear from him, prompting them to call out and knock on his door multiple times. Eventually, they broke down the door only to discover Sobhi had ended his life by hanging himself from the ceiling.

Sources of Barran Press indicated that Sobhi’s suicide was likely a result of the severe economic hardships that he and his family were experiencing.

Suicide rates have been notably rising in Sana'a and across various Yemeni provinces, attributed to the ongoing economic decline and living conditions that have worsened dramatically since the Houthi takeover and the subsequent war, which has led to what international reports describe as one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
