A large protest was held in Marib on Friday, October 11, 2024, demanding the expansion of public activities opposing the genocide being perpetrated against the residents of northern Gaza and other Palestinian cities.
The demonstration took place after Friday prayers in front of the Adhban Mosque, where participants held banners denouncing the Israeli occupation and highlighting the atrocities occurring in Gaza.
A statement from the protest, obtained by Barran Press, condemned the international community's alarming silence regarding what it termed the "Generals' Plan" being implemented by Israeli forces in northern Gaza, where horrific massacres against the Palestinian people are occurring.
The statement called for intensified protests through various means and at all levels, in light of the relentless efforts by the Israeli occupation forces to impose a policy of forced displacement and to eliminate the Palestinian cause amidst global silence and unwavering U.S. support for the "terrorist entity."
It asserted that silence in the face of these atrocities constitutes "active participation in the crime, a blatant disregard for justice, and a reinforcement of the double standards in addressing humanitarian issues in the region."
The statement emphasized that northern Gaza is experiencing a real "genocide" while the world remains conspicuously silent, with essential supplies like food and water running scarce.
It noted that the residents of Gaza, particularly in the north, are facing an extremely difficult humanitarian situation due to the ongoing brutal escalation by the occupation forces over the past 20 days, resulting in over 800 martyrs and thousands injured, while hundreds of families remain trapped under the rubble of destroyed buildings.
The protestors underscored that this brutality coincides with the complete collapse of the healthcare system, which is under systematic attack, exacerbating the suffering of the population.
Despite these conditions, the statement affirmed that the Palestinian people continue to exercise their legitimate right to resist the occupation with unwavering determination, aiming for the ultimate goal of establishing an independent state.
The situation in northern Gaza, the statement added, puts "the transparency of international forums to the test," reminding that Palestine is a victim of daily killings, with bodies scattered in the streets and a Nazi-like siege imposed on thousands trapped in their homes, with water, food, and medicine denied.
The participants urged the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities to halt the unjust war on Gaza and other occupied cities, to mitigate civilian suffering, and to ensure their protection.
They called for forcing the Israeli occupation to adhere to international will to achieve a just and lasting peace that does not compromise Palestinian rights.
The protestors also urged Arab and Islamic leaders to overcome their paralysis, which has emboldened the occupation to continue its crimes, reminding them of their significant responsibilities toward supporting the besieged people of northern Gaza amidst ongoing genocide for over a year.
Additionally, they called for international relief agencies and human rights organizations to take immediate action and exert maximum pressure on the occupying forces to lift the unjust siege and open multiple humanitarian corridors to deliver sufficient food and medical aid.
The participants demanded that international courts hold the occupation accountable for its ongoing crimes under international law and United Nations resolutions concerning human rights, emphasizing that the world must support the Palestinian people's right to freedom and self-determination, like all free peoples.
For nearly a year, Marib has witnessed solidarity events with the Palestinian people, opposing the destructive war waged by the Israeli occupation with unprecedented Western support.
These protests have seen participation from hundreds of citizens across various social and political demographics, including civil society organizations and university students.
