The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its condemnation and denunciation of the Israeli military targeting of Iran, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, October 26, 2024. The ministry stated that such actions constitute a violation of Iran's sovereignty and contravene international laws and norms.
In an official statement, Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its consistent stance against the ongoing escalation in the region and the expanding conflict that threatens the security and stability of countries and their populations.
The statement urged all parties to exercise the utmost restraint and de-escalate tensions, warning of the consequences of continued military conflicts in the region. The ministry called upon the international community and influential parties to fulfill their roles and responsibilities in reducing tensions and ending conflicts.
On the same day, the United States urged Iran to cease its attacks on Israel to break the cycle of violence, following Israeli airstrikes in response to a large-scale missile assault launched by Tehran earlier this month.
U.S. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby emphasized, “We urge Tehran to stop its attacks on Israel to end the fighting without further escalation.” He confirmed that the U.S. did not participate in the Israeli strikes, stating, “Our goal is to accelerate diplomatic efforts and reduce tensions in the Middle East.”
A senior U.S. administration official noted that President Joe Biden and the National Security team had worked with Israeli officials in recent weeks to encourage a targeted and proportional response aimed at minimizing civilian harm. The official added, “It appears that this is exactly what happened this evening.”
President Biden has encouraged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to design a response that deters further attacks on Israel while minimizing the risks of additional escalation, emphasizing that this is the goal.
