On Sunday, October 27, 2024, the Saudi project for clearing landmines in Yemen, known as "Masam," announced that its engineering teams successfully removed 720 mines in various regions throughout the country during the fourth week of October.

In a statement obtained by Barran Press, Masam detailed that among the removed munitions were 29 anti-personnel mines, 21 anti-tank mines, and 670 pieces of unexploded ordnance.

The total number of landmines cleared in October has now reached 3,758, increasing the overall total since the inception of the Masam project to 467,431 mines, which were indiscriminately planted by the Houthi group, classified internationally as a terrorist organization. These mines continue to pose a significant threat to innocent civilians, particularly children, women, and the elderly.

UN reports indicate that the Houthi group has planted approximately two million mines across the areas under its control, resulting in the deaths and injuries of over 20,000 civilians, with a majority being women and children. rights reports accuse the Houthis of transforming Yemen into the world's largest minefield by deploying more than two million mines. Various human rights organizations have repeatedly called on the Houthi group to provide maps of the landmines they have laid for the organizations involved in mine clearance efforts.
